U.S. PCGS Gold Coins
U.S. PCGS gold coins are those gold coins whose grade has been certified by the Professional Coin Grading Service. PCGS initiated operation in 1986 and has become one of the premier coin grading services. Like NGC, PCGS is a "Tier 1" grading service to the numismatic industry, utilizing sonically-sealed, tamper-evident capsules ("slabs").
PCGS is so certain of their grading accuracy, they offer a cash-backed grading guarantee. Additionally, PCGS has a policy against encapsulating coins with problems such as: artificial toning, excessive cleaning, environmental damage, PVC damage, major scratches, or planchet flaws. These elements have helped create a marketplace in which sight-unseen coin trading has been able to flourish.
PCGS also maintains the PCGS Set Registry which assists collectors in building sets and competing with other coin collectors as they upgrade their collections.
