$4 Stella Gold
The $4 Stella gold coin is an extremely rare pattern coin that was envisioned as the U.S. answer to the various foreign gold coins that were popular at the time. Unfortunately, the four-dollar denomination proved unpopular and the coins were never minted in significant quantities. In fact, no one knows exactly how many of these coins were minted. Estimates can only be made based upon grading service population reports and movement in auctions from time to time.
