$20 Liberty Head Double Eagles
Minted between 1849 and 1907, the $20 Liberty Head Double Eagle was, at the time, the largest denomination of all U.S. regular issue coins. A couple strikes are especially notable: The 1849 was a unique pattern coin and now has a home in the Smithosonian musem. In 1861, Anthony C. Paquet introduced a modified design for the coin's reverse. The design was, however, quickly reverted to the original. Consequently, coins bearing this particular strike are extremely rare.
